2009 Highlights:

• Record revenues of $7.7 billion, up 26% from 2008;
• Equity gold sales of 5.3 million ounces and equity copper sales of 226 million pounds;

• Record net cash from continuing operations of $2.9 billion, up 109% from 2008;
• Gold operating margin(1) increased 28% from 2008 on a gold price increase of 12%;

Global Presence

The African Region

Newmont's Ahafo operation and Akyem project comprise about 20 percent of our core assets worldwide. They are serving as a catalyst for national development - bringing information technology, communications, education, technology transfer, human resource development, supply chain, electricity and health to the country. The Asia Pacific Region

During the past decade, Newmont's Asia Pacific region has grown to become the company's largest asset. These years have brought tremendous opportunity and challenges to the company, from the discovery of additional ore reserves to ensuring the responsible management of local environments.
Newmont acquired its Australian, New Zealand and Indonesian assets as part of the acquisition of Normandy Mining in 2002, and mining in Indonesia began in the late 1990s. Newmont also has the Martha open pit and Favona underground mines in Waihi, New Zealand.
Our newest Australian asset is the Boddington operation, which is expected to reach full capacity in mid-2010. Boddington commenced a 12-month ramp-up in late July, 2009 and will become Australia's largest gold producer.

The North America Region

As early as the 1920s, Newmont had taken interest in a handful of U.S. mining, smelting and gold companies – many of which sustained our company during the Great Depression. By the 1930s, we acquired three more gold companies in Canada, and opened two lead and zinc mines in Colorado.
Newmont ventured into Mexico in the late 1940s, when asked by cash-strapped Mobil to help finance offshore drilling. But our most revolutionary North American discovery occurred in the early 1960s, when Nevada geologists discovered submicroscopic, disseminated gold, yielding more than 10 million ounces over the next 25 years.
