Maple Leaf Reforestation Inc. ("Maple Leaf") is a Canadian public company, listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. Maple Leaf's primary focus is growing Canadian "Value Added Tree Seedlings" in China which are used to help correct environmental issues such as desertification as well as for landscaping and nursery use. Maple Leaf currently has over 6,000,000 various types of seedlings under cultivation inside its 110,000 square feet greenhouse and nursery facility. Maple Leaf focuses on entering sales contracts for its seedlings with government entities.

Additionally, Maple Leaf is undertaking efforts to develop a broader base of renewable resource-focused operations. Maple Leaf is presently engaged in the production and distribution of organic fertilizers and high-protein alfalfa in China. Maple Leaf is also reviewing various opportunities relating to bio-fuels, bio-diesel, waste oil and yellowhorn seedlings.

Maple Leaf is a Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise, which allows Maple Leaf to control 100% of the direction and operations of the company in China, yet have cash flow from the operations in China to flow back to the parent company in Canada.

Inner Mongolia Province - Greenhouse Project

Overview of China Desertification Issues

• Desertification: currently 1/5 of the size of China is desert or semi-desert;


• The continued desert expansion may force the capital city, Beijing, to be relocated;


• Two major sources of sand storm: Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang resulting in economic losses of CDN $7.71 Bil per year;


• Total amount of government spending in trees cultivation for sustainable development is CDN$3 Billion per year with 30 Billion trees planted in the past 20 years.

Inner Mongolia Province

• CDN$2 M greenhouse (GH) completed in 2006 with state-of-art Dutch technology.


• 110,000 sq ft GH is fully operational and can cultivate 6,000,000 seedlings per cycle, up to 4 times a year. Generates CDN$3.4 M per year in total revenues.


• Types of the seedlings: Blue Spruce, Colorado Spruce, Jack Pine, Scots, Pine, White Pine, etc.


• The 2nd GH is 150,000 sq ft and costs about CDN$1 M to build with state-of-art Chinese GH technology.

Xinjiang Province - Yellowhorn Trees Project

Why Yellowhorn Trees?

• The Yellowhorn tree (Xanthoceras Sorborifolia Bge) is a local species that is well adaptable to desert climate. Ideally suited for anti-desertification programs in Northern China and does not compete directly for traditional farmland.


• The root of Yellowhorn tree grows very deep and grabs the surrounding soil thereby preventing soil erosion.


• The fruits from the Yellowhorn plant produce a highly refined edible oil and command high economic value. Can also be used as a premium feedstock for biofuel production.


• Under the policy of Conversion of Farmland, Reforestation & Anti-esertification programs, significant Chinese government grants and subsidies are available for cultivation of crops for anti- desertification and bio-diversity purposes.

Yellowhorn Trees Project

• Set up a JV with Jimsar county in Xinjiang;


• Jimsar county will provide 68,000 acres of land to MPE free of charge for 70 years to grow Yellowhorn trees;


• The land package can be increased to 170,000 acres upon MPE's request;


• Jimsar county will provide free labor for planting Yellowhorn trees;

Cooking Oil





• Yellowhorn cooking oil has less cholesterol than olive oil resulting in a superior product that fetches a premium price.


• Easy to extract without the use of sophisticated equipment;


• Market price jumped to RMB$200/kg from RMB$40/kg when this project was announced Nov 2007;


• When former U.S. President Nixon and his wife visited China in 1972, the Chinese government utilized Yellowhorn oil for the official state banquet and was very well commended by the Nixons.




Medical Applications





• Prevention and treatment in hyperlipidemia, hypertension and other cardio-cerebral-vascular diseases;


• Therapy of primary bed-wetting, etc.





Overview of Bio-Diesel Usage in China





• Total production nationwide was only 0.05 M to 0.1 M tonnes;


• Bio-diesel demand will exceed domestic production by 2010;


• Annual demand for bio-diesel is expected to reach 1 M tonnes in 2010, which is 20 percent more than the country's expected domestic supply of biofuel.


• China is committed to a 25 percent usage of biofuel for transportation by 2020;


• Yellowhorn trees grow in semi-desertification area that no other food crop can grow, so it is not competed for cultivated land.



Hunan Province - Organic Fertilizer Plant


Maple Leaf Reforestation Inc (TSX-V-MPE) (the "Company" or "Maple Leaf") is pleased to announce that it has finalized the registration of its foreign subsidiary, Hunan Changde Maple Leaf Fertilizer Co., Ltd., which will be responsible for operating the Company`s organic fertilizer plant located in Jin City, Wuhan City, China (the "Plant"). The Plant occupies a 21 acre (130 mu) building. The Plant consists of four sections, a fermenting workshop, a granulating workshop, a laboratory and a comparative testing base. The initial production capacity of the Plant will be 20,000 metric tonnes per year and the Plant has the potential to be upgraded to 100,000 metric tonnes per year. An opening ceremony was held for the Plant which was attended by Mr. Raymond Lai, President & CEO of Maple Leaf, by Mr. Kang Shaozhong, the Vice-Mayor and representative of Jin City and by various other Government officials from the Hunan Province. Mr. Shaozhong and the various environmental and agricultural departments in the area have been very supportive of the Plant. The Plant is scheduled to commence production in March 2009.
The fertilizer to be produced at the Plant is known as Fenghua organic fertilizer ("Fenghua"). Fenghua is a new type of environmentally friendly fertilizer which uses pig manure, chaff and sewage sludge as raw materials. It can make soil loose, prevent soil from consolidating, improve the nutrition quality of soil, increase soil fertility and increase crop yield.
