Mesa Exploration (MSA:CA)

Green Energy Lithium Project
The Green Energy lithium exploration project hosts a potentially world-class brine deposit containing 40% minerals grading as high as 1,700 parts per million (ppm) lithium and 8% potash. Current lithium brine mines grade 600 ppm lithium and brine extracted in potash solution mines grade from 1% to 3% potash.
Historic Exploration
The super-saturated mineral brine zone was discovered accidentally in the 1960s when oil exploration encountered brine flowing up to 1,000 gallons per minute. The area was explored extensively for oil and gas in the 1960s, targeting oil traps in the Cane Creek anticline. Oil and gas was discovered and is still being produced. Only one well was drilled specifically for brine, the Roberts Brine well, in 1967. The well was able to penetrate the top six feet of the thirty foot thick host rock due to tremendous pressure. Brine flowed from the well for several days at an impressive rate of 11,800 barrels per day (519,000 gallons). Pressure chokes were not used which allowed the minerals in the brine to become crystaline and eventually the drill stem became clogged. Mesa's potash projects in Utah consist of 116 square miles of exploration permit applications with the Bureau of Land Management:
- White Cloud 35,510 acres (55 square miles)
- Salt Wash 21,184 acres (33 square miles)
- Whipsaw 17,968 acres (28 square miles)
Two miles to the south of the White Cloud project, Intrepid Potash's Cane Creek mine produces 80,000 tons of potash and 100,000 tons of by-product salt annually. Potash is produced by solution mining and solar evaporation from potash beds #5 and #9 at depths of 3,000 to 4,500 feet. The mine has been in production for over 45 years. Solution mining has the benefits of lower capital cost, shorter timeline to production and lower operating costs as compared to conventional potash operations.
Historic oil well logs document that the two beds being mined at the Cane Creek mine extend onto the White Cloud project.

Mesa announced on 9/2/2010 that it has joint-ventured the project to Passport Potash (PPI). Passport is the operator of the JV and is currently conducting geophysical surveys and a multi-phase drilling program.
Exploration permits have been granted from the Arizona State Land Department covering 1,950 acres (3 square miles) in the Holbrook Evaporite Basin. Historic data from a core hole drilled on Mesa's Holbrook Project in 1965 describes potash mineralization grading 13.7% potash over a thickness of 9.5 feet. One additional hole intercepted 13 feet of potash, analytical data has yet to be secured. Both of these drill holes were included in a resource calculation done by the Arizona Geological Survey (AGS) documented in a 2008 publication 'Potash and Related Resources of the Holbrook Basin, Arizona' (OFR-08-07). The study estimates the Basin could host 2.27 billion metric tons of potash. Below is a link to a summary of the AGS report:

Project Overview
The Lisbon Valley Project is located in the Lisbon Valley Mining District, San Juan County, Utah, approximately 35 miles south of the town of Moab. The Lisbon Valley area is a world-class uranium mining district with past production of over 100 million pounds of U3O8. None of the major mines in the district were exposed at the surface; all were discovered by wildcat exploration drilling.
Principal Target
Mesa Exploration is pursuing the concept that 1/2 of the district has remained buried and undiscovered on the down-faulted, eastern flank of the Lisbon Valley anticline. Historic uranium production of 65 million pounds of U3O8 came from 15 mines along a narrow horizon skirting the western flank of the anticline. Geologists and miners observed this trend and postulated that uranium mines should exist along a similar horizon on the eastern side of the Lisbon Valley fault. Wildcat drilling in 1968 validated the concept with the discovery of the district's largest mine, the Lisbon Mine, which produced 20 million pounds of U3O8 at a grade of 0.3% U3O8 (6 pounds per ton). The decline of uranium prices in the late 20th century brought a halt to further mining and exploration in the district. Recent drilling by Mesa (see news release dated 9/10/2007) encountered significant U3O8 mineralization 8,000 feet east of the Lisbon Mine.
Highlights from drill hole L-15 are:
• 3.5 feet of 0.28% U3O8 (5.6 pounds/ton)
• 1.0 foot of 0.16% U3O8 (3.2 pounds/ton)
• 1.5 feet of 0.13% U3O8 (2.6 pounds/ton)
Strong mineralization between these three higher-grade intercepts resulted in an overall mineralized interval of 17.5 feet grading 0.11% U3O8 (2.2 pounds/ton).
